Vertical blinds have vastly improved in terms of style nowadays

. In the past, they provided only functional purpose to the windows and doors of a house. They have eventually transformed into beautiful showpieces that adorn the modern homes. They are rich in style, form and fabric nowadays.

In early days blinds were mostly made of wood or some metallic materials. Or, they were made of some similar material to keep them very lightweight. They were also made with consideration that they were not very difficult to clean. They were seen more as a utility for a house to keep the sun rays away rather than add to the attractiveness of the room. Now that has changed over time.

Style is the main essence now in the minds of people when selecting blinds for their homes or business alike. Of course they must make functional sense as well like before. In modern times they must improve the look and feel of a window or a door. Otherwise, people would simple go for drapes and curtains which at times can be viewed as more attractive than blinds as you can play with the fabric and color more. Whether the window blinds are thick and strong or light depends on whether it is needed to block all of the sun away or allow some mild light in to the room.

If the requirement is to have a beautiful yet inexpensive blind, then paper is a good choice. In old times, having paper as a blind was unthinkable. But it is widely accepted now as great fabric for blinds. Paper provides great strength and durability. They fit very snugly into a window reveal. They help in keeping out the light. They are a great showpiece when combined with curtains in the living room or the bedroom. They are very easy to clean and are probably the most inexpensive choice when it comes to selecting the fabric for blinds. They are also almost always permanently pleated and so it limits the buyer if they are looking for more style.

If shutting out the entire light is not a big constraint then window blinds made out of cane can be great. Cane blinds are usually made of whole or split bamboo shoots. It provides for a very different type of style than paper blinds. It gives a more contemporary or tropical look to the room. It is as if the room exists in a Mediterranean location irrespective of where it is actually located. Because they are bamboo based they are not good to shut out light completely. It does allow some light into the room. But maybe that is the requirement for many setups and hence may be considered good. They also compromise on privacy because again they do allow some light to pass through into the room.

Canvass blinds, also called vertical louvers, are similar to blinds made of cane. They allow light to come in various shades. They are however very easy to use as they can be pivoted and turned. It provides great flexibility in terms of the amount of light needed to enter the room. That can give a very contemporary style to the room.

Recently there are Venetian blinds as well in the marketplace. They nicely fit in to the window reveal much like the paper blinds. They are seen as great decorative items for the rooms. Cedar and pine is the main material chosen to build the Venetian blinds. They provide a very natural beauty to the windows and doors of any room. They also score high in rendering privacy to the room because they keep away almost all the light from the outside.

It has been a fascinating journey for vertical blinds evolving a great deal from the past to the current times. Apart from the normal functional aspect of it, blinds also help in giving some modern style to the rooms nowadays. A beautiful decorative piece is what they are considered nowadays as they come in a wide variety of style, color and fabric.
