Vertical Jump Training - The Jump Manual - Review
Across all sports, from baseball to basketball, from football to soccer and rugby, jumping is a skill and ability required to succeed.
Entire games and championships can be decided by single plays. Good athletes become great athletes when they can jump effectively. If you're a basketball player, I'm sure you can remember times when if you were just an inch or two higher, your would have an easy basket, but instead the ball was blocked. Or if you play football, another inch or two of vertical height would have allowed you to catch the winning touchdown. Baseball player? Then maybe you had an opportunity to save a home run..but you didn't have the vertical jump to reach it.
The Jump Manual is written by Jacob Hiller, a trainer who has trained athletes of all ages, from high school to the Olympics, how to be more explosive and to improve their vertical jump.
Many athletes of all ages wish to increase their jumping ability. Most of them are not aware of the proper form and technique that is necessary to learn in order jump higher. Another problem is that people simply don't know what to train. In the fitness community, there is a lot theories but not nearly as many proven facts.
One of the most common places people go wrong in their training is that they focus entirely on strength. Sure, the strength gained from doing squats, leg presses, and calf exercises does help improve your vertical height. Strength is only a small portion of having a big jump. The most important factor is being explosive. If you know how to explosively use the strength you have, then you will finally be able to see real, solid gains in your vertical height. Once you've mastered your own body - being able to recruit each muscle and them all at once, you will be able to "explode" off of the ground and jump higher than ever before.
When training to better your jump, there are a few principles that you should still follow. The basics of exercise still hold strong here; get rest and proper nutrition. If you're constantly dehydrated, or your diet is poor, no coach or program can help your vertical. A great diet, adequate water, and proper rest will ensure your success.
From all of the programs I've seen, The Jump Manual is one of the best, but as stated above, no program will work unless you're dedicated and you do your part with nutrition and rest.
You're given the tools, but it's up to you to use them.
