Considered as perhaps the smallest African capital of the Seychelles - Victoria or Port Victoria is located on the island of Mahe towards the north east of the island. The island of Mahe in comparison to the others in the archipelago is considered as the main island.

At just eight kilometers in width and over 25kilometres in length, Mahe is the largest of the inner islands. Not only is the gateway to of the Seychelles it's also the heart of its cultural and economic roots. Almost ninety percent of the total population of Seychelles resides in Mahe. The diverse population with many residents whose ancestral roots could be traced back to European, Asian, European and even Indian descent, contribute to this melting pot of cultures found on this little island.

Visitors to Victoria could tour the entire island within two and half hours by car. Mahe itself is a central location and many arrive in Mahe to begin their onward excursions to islands that are close by. In addition the domestic flights to the neighboring islands begin from Mahe itself.
