What is vinyl fencing? What is PVC?

Saratoga Rail Fence vinyl is a compound that is formulated from raw materials that include polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin*, UV inhibitors (TiO2), impact modifiers, stabilizers, and toners.

*PVC resin is produced with the raw materials: crude oil, natural gas, and chloride.

How is vinyl fencing made?

This can best be explained using the manufacturing of profiles and the fabrication of those profiles.

Profiles: Vinyl fencing originates as a PVC powder form resin. When blended with the proper compounds this formulation is fed into an extruder where it is formed into a malleable vinyl. The malleable vinyl is then fed though a die into the shape of the finished profile. Vacuum technology is used to retain the malleable vinyls proper shape. Water is then introduced to cool the vinyl to the desired final rigid state. See Engineering/Technology for the extrusion processes used in this process.

Fabrication: After the manufacturing of the profiles Saratoga Rail Fence cuts the profiles to the proper length for each specific fence. Holes are also routed into the appropriate fence component (rails, posts, and pickets) and assembled into fence sections for finished fences.

What is virgin vinyl?

This is the term used for a vinyl product that does not contain recycled products. Recycled products that are brought into an extrusion plant may contain impurities or lower grade vinyl. Low-grade or impure recycled materials can seriously affect the vinyl products flexibility, impact resistance, and UV inhibition. Saratoga vinyl fencing products are extruded using only virgin materials unless specified green* or recycled*.

*Green/Recycled: Vinyl fencing products sold by Saratoga Rail Fence using either of these designations are solely intended to introduce a less expensive option to our superior virgin profiles. Our green/recycled product use only recycled vinyl materials that are recycled scrap from our own extrusion plant. This helps guarantee that no impurities or low-grade materials will be used.

Note: There is a difference in performance of virgin vinyl products versus recycled products even when the recycled product is controlled in house. Customers have to weigh the savings in cost versus that performance.

What colors does your vinyl fence come in?

We offer all our Saratoga Rail Fence vinyl styles in white and tan. We also offer limited fence styles in stone gray and clay (Call for styles). We also offer our TruGrain vinyl fencing in white, tan, and pebblestone gray.

What is the warranty on your vinyl fencing?

All of our Saratoga Rail Fence vinyl products for property owners carry a Transferable Lifetime Limited Warranty. Our warranty for commercial customers (non-living entities) is good for 30 years.

Is the Warranty important?

Yes it is. Warranties for vinyl fencing products can range from 10 years and higher. It is very important to have a strong warranty and independent testing done on all of our products. Saratoga Rail Fence vinyl products are backed by a Transferable Lifetime Limited Warranty.
