Violence, agression and stress and how to deal with it

Violence, agression and stress and how to deal with it

The other day I was staring out the window and my mind was on auto pilot like always. There weren't too many people out there but one particular woman in her mid 30's or so caught my attention. At first everything seemed completely normal. A woman walking her dog. But no. All of a sudden she started yelling at it to "do it quickly". Of course she then instantly looked around her to see whether or not anyone heard it. Nobody else was around except me but since I was 2 floors higher she didn't notice me. A few minutes later her dog started sniffing the ground again when the woman pulled the leash, so hard and so fast the poor animal actually flew in mid air for a good meter or two, followed by a mindless rambling about how slow and dumb the dog is. It just makes you wonder when she does something so violent in public what on earth is she doing to her pet at home when there are no witnesses? Violence as a sign of stress

Since most of us are working hard in today's tough economy and maybe even have more than one job just to pay the rent and get food on the table then it's obvious we're all stressed out and tired. This can inadvertently lead to violent behavior and mood swings. But is it right to torture a small helpless animal just to get your fix? Or beat your wife or kids or go berserk on a Saturday night in a bar downtown? Ways to relive stress

There are numerous ways to relive stress and even prevent it. Here's what worked for me: 1. One thing at a time

Do one thing at a time and stop multitasking. If you can't do it then at least try to reduce the things you do at once. The human mind isn't a computer and we're simply not built to multitask. Eventually we will start doing mistakes and what's even worse we don't get anything done properly and correctly which will most likely lead to having to repeat whatever we were doing. 2. Take a long walk outside each day

You probably don't spend enough time outside in fresh air and away from cars, people and the city. I'm not saying to go miles from your home but I'm sure there are parks and such in your local area where you can relax. And while you're at it switch off your phone and don't think about the project you're supposed to complete or any other problem that may stress you out. When you're out there just walk, relax and breathe in the fresh air. And don't think too much! 3. Wake up 30 minutes earlier

It helped to make my day much happier when I could spend 30 minutes just laying in bed in the morning and stretching my legs and arms. Don't jump up and rush to work without even eating anything! 4. Slow it down a notch

Don't try to do everything fast. Whatever you're doing you CAN do it much slower. This works extremely well at your workplace. If you complete your tasks fast it will only get you more and more to do but if you take your time and complete each task with medium speed you not only help yourself not stress out but you will also impress your boss with the quality work you've done. 5. Spend quality time with yourself

I started this post with me staring out the window. I do this a lot and I don't think about work related stuff or anything that can stress me out. I just let my mind wander around. Trust me - you'll be surprised what you can find out about yourself just by being with yourself and actually having a good time. If you can't do it at home then go outside. Parks and forests are perfect for this :) 6. Eat properly / You are what you eat

Try to not eat fast food too much. There's a reason Japan is a highly developed country. They only eat healthy food! When you're eating, don't multitask. Don't try to read a newspaper or check your email at the same time. When you eat, you eat and do nothing else. Also try not to eat fast. Make it easy for your stomach to digest food because when it fails things can get pretty painful and bad.

These guidelines may sound obvious to some, unthinkable to others but this is what worked for me.
