Visit Europe in November

As we come into November, winter creeps up on northern and middle Europe. Middle Europe will still be fairly nice, maybe even some blue skies, although not many other colours will be evident around this time. A great time to visit as most of the tourists have retired for the season and it won't be over crowded. You get a chance to see how the locals live when the streets aren't filled with foreigners.

Many cities have started to decorate their streets with beautiful lights, and indoor entertainment starts to be very interesting. In Germany, many cities start having Christmas markets that start late in November and continue on through late December.

Queens in Northern Ireland hosts a large arts festival for 3 weeks in November.

If you are looking for a warmer climate you're going to have to start heading south. Spain, Portugal and Italy are great destinations that will still have warmer weather in November. Do be warned of the rain in the southern parts during this time.

Northern Spain will start getting cold and wet in November, but the Canary Islands are still great for a dry cultural experience.

Lisbon, Sintra and Evora are a few nice Portuguese cities to visit in November.

Southern Italy generally has mild winters. Visit Rome, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sicily.

November 21st, Venice, Italy has La Salute which is a religious festival at Basilica Santa Maria della Salute (church). The church was built in thanks to the end of the plague that happened in the 1630's. It is still one of the most famous churches in Italy. The festival has been celebrated every year since 1687. Thousands of people come to light a candle at the church and watch a grand parade that goes from Piazza San Marco to the church.
