As a child, I used to love reading books for a simple reason - I could lose myself in the imaginary world they conjure in my mind

. Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz transported me to the Land of Oz amidst witches and wizards, Enid Blyton would take me to a place where fairies and elves were a common sight! As I grew up, I longed to travel to places beyond the realm of fantasy. It was then that I sought out books and novels that could take me to real, existing locations the charming Old World, the captivating Far East, the Wild West, or the surreal Mediterranean!

One of my personal favorite novels, which took me to another world and era, is the "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden. This fascinating book is centered in Japan, Kyoto before World War II began. From a poor fishing village to the sophisticated Japanese tea houses, from the dark, murky streets of Kyoto to beautiful cherry blossom gardens - this book truly gave me a full-fledged tour of Japan as it was in those times.

If you want to take a peek into more enthralling destinations, you could look for romance novels that have foreign protagonists in their storyline. Take for instance, "One Summer in Italy" by Lucy Gordon, is set in the land of Signores' and Signorinas' Rome, in an ethereal setting in a luxurious villa. Truly mesmerizing! Paulo Coelho books cast a spell on me as well. While reading "The Alchemist" by this gifted author, I found myself travelling with Santiago through the plains of Andalusia and the deserts of Africa!
