Visit Golestan Palace Complex in Tehran During Your Tour to Iran


Golestan Palace Complex is located in the heart of Tehran and was built during the Safavid era. The complex has been built in a very important locality of Tehran with the Ministries of Justice and Finance, a block from Panzda-e Khordad Ave, Davar Street and Naser Khosrow Street on each side of it. Other important attractions nearby are Tehran bazaar, Pamenar Street and Shahr Park.

Among the many structures built inside this complex are the Imarat-e Takht-e Marmar, Khalvat-e Karim Khani, Talar-e Almas, Imarat-e Badgir, Talar-e Aaj, Shams al-Imareh, Talar-e Salam, Mouze-e Makhsous, Talar-e Ayenah, Imarat-e Brelian, Kakh-e Abyaz and the Chador Khaneh.

The Gardens


There are two main sections in the gardens of Golestan Palace Complex you can see during your tour to Iran. Takht-e Marmar garden is situated to the west of the complex which is not very large. It is characterized by a water channel running through its middle. Gulestan Garden has comparatively got a larger garden and is square in shape. A water channel also runs through it but it is near to the place which connects this section of the garden with the other one. There are many buildings built around these two sections constituting the courtyard.

Location of the Complex

You can enter Golestan Palace Complex from Panzdah Khordad Square side. On entering, you will come across Takht-i Marmar garden, with a pool joining this garden with the Imarat-e Takht-e Marmar. Davar Street runs just outside the wall on the west side of the garden. Kakh-e Abyaz is located towards the southeast of the garden. It opens out to the Gulestan garden in the east side where Khalvat-e Karim Khani is also there. Gulestan garden is about 5 centuries old and has been built and remodeled during the rule of Safavid, Zand, Qajar and Pahlavi dynasties.

Ancient Structures

Research has shown that the oldest structures in Golestan Palace Complex date back to the Zand rule in Iran. Ostad Ghulam Reza Tabrizi was the architect of several structures like Divan Khana and Khalvat-e Karim Khani in the complex. Rulers of the Qajar dynasty also made this complex their royal home and also added other structures like Qasr-e Gulestan, which no longer exists today. Imarat-e Bolour, Imarat-e Badgir and Talar-e Almas were also built during this time, which you can see during your tour to Iran.
