Known as the gateway to the Gold Coast, Coolangatta is the most southerly town in Queensland

. Situated only about 100kms from Brisbane, Coolangatta is a wonderful destination for holiday travellers. Considered to be one of the most relaxing areas of the Gold Coast, Coolangatta is easy to get to and easy to get around. Car hire at Coolangatta airport can be picked up when you land in the Gold Coast and from the airport; it is just a short drive until you can be enjoying the surf and sand within a short time arriving in Queensland. Coolangatta offers some of the most amazing beaches in the Gold Coast area along with secluded coves, excellent surfing and beautiful parklands. The shopping and entertainment is also top notch with places like The Showcase Shopping Centre and the Coolangatta Market. Here you can find unique gifts and fantastic bargains. Pick up some interesting knick-knacks, which you can take back home for your family and friends. These markets are also great places to purchase special souvenirs. If it is haute couture that you are looking for, that too is available in the local shopping areas. There are numerous boutiques, where you will be able to find designer clothes, jewellery and bags, to add to your collection. Coolangatta is also known for the nightlife as well as wonderful seafood restaurants. As with most coastal areas, this place too offers to guests, some of the best and finest seafood. Many of the restaurants in the area are recognised for the quality wines and fine dining. This town is also home to one of the most popular events in the Gold Coast known as The Wintersun Festival which relives some of the best times of the 1950s and 1960s. Held every June, this annual event brings in people from all over Australia and beyond. Whether you are travelling alone or with family, Coolangatta offers tons of different types of accommodation, from the budget friendly hostels to expensive resorts. In case you are travelling with a group or even with children, an apartment might be a good stay option for you. This option will not only give you more space, but also a slightly higher level of privacy. Most of these can be found directly on the Marine Parade, which overlooks the beach, encompassing the best views around. Still close to neighbouring beaches, you can either take a bus or use your car hire to get around for easy convenience.
