Visiting Liverpool - a short guide
When Liverpool was announced as the European Capital of Culture for 2008

1. In Everton and Liverpool, the city boasts two excellent top flight football teams that have made a home for themselves in the upper echelons of the Premier League.

3. Many tourists flock to the city to take a magical mystery tour and walk in the footsteps of the Beatles, Liverpool's most famous export. However, with a host of top music venues and live performance bars, Liverpool also has something new to offer.
4. As well as the Beatles tours, there are a host of other professional guided tours to help you explore the city, whether you're after museums, lovely walks or some hidden gems.
5. With the World Museum and Tate Gallery, live music, street performances, theatre shows and festivals, Liverpool has established itself as a cultural hub.
6. If you prefer to spend your holiday or break shopping, then you won't be disappointed with Merseyside. Liverpool One, in particular, with 160 shops, a multiscreen cinema, bars and restaurants, is a major draw.
7. If you want to get away from the city, then why not sample Merseyside's 35,000 hectares of nature conservation sites or The Mersey Waterfront Regional Park, which boasts 145km of coastline?
8. Few people visit Liverpool without seeing its famous docks, which in 2004 became a UNESCO World Heritage site. With the finest bars, restaurants, museums, shops and accommodation, there's much to explore.
9. Getting to Liverpool is extremely easy. With the Liverpool John Lennon Airport, railway stations, roads and water links, it has such a fantastic infrastructure that planning a visit could not be any easier.
