Visiting Michigan's Most Notorious State Parks
Michigan is a lovely state to visit any time of year
. It is home to some amazing natural treasures and offers lots of activities for guests.
When it comes to vacations, many individuals often overlook the beauty and grandeur of Michigan and the Great Lakes. However, this is a fabulous place for those that enjoy taking part in outdoor activities and spending their time in nature.
Especially during the summer months, there are a great number of attractions to see and things to do. It is a great place for families to spend time together, because parents and children can take part in a number of great activities together.
Almost anyone that enjoys the outdoors can make a fun trip out of this destination. The state is home to some of the most beautiful scenery and gorgeous state parks that the entire United States has to offer.
Most people that make their home out of the northeast side of the country can easily make a trip here without having to spend a great deal of money. There are enough distractions in nature to keep you occupied, and some cost very little to no money.
Located on Lake Michigan's beach shoreline is Ludington State Park. This is a premiere location for camping.
Nearby Hamlin Lake, which is the largest man-made type in this region, also give campers and water sports enthusiasts extra space to take part in the activities that they enjoy. On the body of water, there is a beautiful and pristine canoe trail that leads visitors past islands containing tons of species of wildlife.
It is a fabulous way to spend a warmer summer day enjoying your family. The state park also has miles of hiking trails, both through sands and forests.
If you are interested in learning about the ecology and environment of the area, the visitors' center offers day and night tours explaining the Great Lakes' wonders. When you are in Ludington State Park, make sure and take the trail to the historic cultural lighthouse.
Not only are you given a fantastic view, but also it is a fun opportunity to connect with the area's history. Camping in the park is a cinch, no matter what time of year; electric hookups and restrooms are available for guests.
Those that prefer to see the region during the winter months have the option to cross-country ski on the miles of trail and make use of the warming shelter provided. Porcupine Mountains is the largest state park available in Michigan and offers over fifty-eight thousand acres of land to recreate in.
It is located on Lake Superior, and offers some of the most beautiful forests, vistas, and waterfalls to behold. It is also a wonderful destination for campers, because it offers both traditional and modern campsites.
Cabins and small lodges are available to those that do not wish to brave the outdoors. The area offers over ninety miles of hiking trails and over twenty miles of some for cross-country skiing.
In Tahquamenon Falls is an untouched region with some of the most beautiful falls in the eastern Upper Peninsula, due to the river that runs through the area. The waterfalls can be seen from many different wooded and paved regions.
Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior is part of this area; there is a very interesting amber color to the water here, not because of muddiness or dirt, but because of a pigment that comes from the surrounding trees and plant life.
Much of Tahquamenon Falls is remote and hard to get to with motorized vehicles, but it is worth it. There are plentiful species of wildlife, including black bears, osprey, and even bald eagles.
There are four campgrounds for guests to stay in; most offer electricity outlets, restrooms, fire pits, and tables to use. Some also have concessions and rentals available.
The Waterloo Recreation Area is specifically catered to those that are interested in geology, for there is a center where guests can learn about the geologic makeup of the area. Year-round exhibits and programs are there for those that love learning about nature.
This site, too, has places to camp and hike and even offer equestrian trails. Water activities, like boating, are fun during the summer and skiing and snowmobiling are there during the winter.
Anyone that is hoping to get away on a nature retreat, especially with their family, should look into the many beautiful parks of the state of Michigan. The Great Lakes give guests plenty to look at, as well as lots of fun activities and excursions.
