Visiting Rome? Here Are Some Things To Do

You will never run out of things to do and experience while you are in Rome

. In fact, there is a popular saying that one lifetime does not give enough opportunity to take in the whole of Rome! Still, though your visit may last a short time, you can still have a memorable experience in this ancient Italian city. Following are a few ways you may wish to occupy yourself while you are in Rome.

If you want a great romantic experience, consider hiring the mythical Vespa motor bike for a grand tour of the city with your better half. Alternatively, you might take a walk and enjoy the numerous sights Rome has to offer. If you decide to walk around the city, make sure you are wearing your most comfortable footwear and that you are carrying a map. You are sure to be tired and hungry after a walking excursion, so be prepared to take advantage of the marble benches overlooking the fountains at the Piazza Navona. Here is a good place to enjoy slices of authentic Italian pizza.

One of the most well-known Roman sites is the great St Peters' Basilica at the Vatican. An experience at St. Peters will have you talking about your trip for years to come. If you time your visit well, you may be able to enter the Vatican Museum free of charge. The museum is open to the public on the last Sunday of every month, or you can pay a small admission to see the basilica at other times during the month. See the burial place of the popes and take in the remarkable beauty of your surroundings at this historical and holy place.

There are many things you can do at the St Peter's square, but one thing in particular you will not want to miss are the astonishingly aligned Bernini Columns. If you visit Cosmedin, you will see the Church of Santa Maria and the 'mouth of the truth' (bocca della verita). Put your hand through it.

Do you love coffee? Just go to the St Eustachio square where the coffee is prepared from a secret recipe. The Italians are known to enjoy their coffee. Estimates state that individuals average about 600 cups of coffee every year. Go to the Campo dei Fiori and mingle with the residents as you enjoy your delicious coffee. The International Wine Academy offers the best wine you will find. Not up to a visit to the Wine Academy? The local bars have a wide selection of delicious wines as well.

If you would like to go down the history lane, visit the Coliseum and mimic the ancient gladiators. Visit the Gruppo Storico Roman to learn more about what it was like to train and perform as a gladiator. Here, you can take lessons and keep a tunic as a remembrance of your experience. Go to the Roman Forum to see the Temple of Saturn. If you love Renaissance art, visit the Galleria Doria Pamphili and the Museo e Galleria Borghese. A walk down the Via Appia Antica will have you traveling down one of Rome's oldest roads.
