Visiting Singapore Is Enlightening

Visiting Singapore is enlightening not only because of some unusual attractions but

also considering the interesting education you receive when you go to certain historic and beautiful places.

The Singapore Flyer is a large observation wheel that is 165 meters high, which is the equivalent of a 42-story building. Costing $240 million to construct, it enables you to get a breathtaking panoramic view of the city, Marina Bay, the Singapore River, and many of its landmarks as the wheel turns in a thirty-minute ride. The scene is awesome especially at dusk when the downtown skyscrapers are lit up.

Historically recreated is the Chinatown Heritage Centre with its street scenes and authentic rooms on three floors in adjoining houses to give you a taste of what living was like in the late 19th century and early 20th century for the Chinese immigrants. Physical displays, recorded video messages of older generations with their memories, and movies are used to give a glimpse of the preserved living quarters with their tiny and dark spaces that were often without windows.

Haji Lane is a tiny lane of narrow pre-war shop-houses in the Muslim quarter which has been transformed into a fashionista's retail stretch of boutiques with stylish clothes including tailored dress shirts, Scandinavian-inspired furniture, artwork, shabby chic home accessories, a Middle Eastern caf, and even an ice cream parlor.

To change to bright and colorful scenery, head to the Botanic Gardens with its flowers, plants, one of the first rubber tree orchards, a virgin rain forest, animals, and lakes. This national park is open daily from 5 a.m. to midnight and is free except for the National Orchid Garden, which is worth the small fee to see a stunning special collection of 1,000 orchid species and 2,000 hybrids. The Gardens is also a popular place for a picnic, relaxing, running, walking, exercise classes, and the popular tai chi. A food court offers coconut jam on its toast along with soft-boiled eggs and coffee for a local traditional breakfast.

For the latest in bargains of electronic and IT gadgets such as MP3 players, laptops, tablets, camcorders, mobile phones, hi-tech cameras and more, there are two massive multi-story emporia named Sim Lim Square and Junan Digitalize Mall. Do some haggling to perhaps get an even better deal and pay even less if it is cash.

Singapore is an intriguing city with a wide variety of attractions to please any interests.
