There are many place you can travel and things you can do with a short amount of vacation time
. What you choose to do should be chosen with care so that you get the most out of your short vacation period.
Philadelphia features many fun things to do, see and learn. It is a great place to take children on a vacation because there are many things designed specifically for them to do.
One such site is Franklin Square. After being closed for a time to remodel, the square has opened again for the 2010 season.
Among the many things to do here there is a carousel, mini-golf, historical monuments, and street races. This square is located in the historical section of Philadelphia.
The square itself is one of the oldest and newest historical attractions. There are four other public squares that were included in the original plan for Philadelphia by William Penn.
After its dramatic renovation, it has been reopened more beautiful and accessible than ever before. There is also much more to do.
Storytelling is a very common thing to see in this park. There are many benches located around the park specifically for this reason.
Many of the stories told are based on the history and myths concerning various parts of Philadelphia. There is a goldmine of historical facts that can be gleaned from this small area of town.
Picnic areas also allow you to enjoy a meal in the middle of the day before exploring the rest of the park. The Philly Mini Gold course features an 18-hole golf course that is designed to include icons of Philadelphia's history.
This will allow you to teach your children some important history, while making them think that they are actually doing a fun activity. Your children will also really enjoy a classic ride on the Philly Park Liberty Carousel.
Philadelphia is well-known for its carousel-making and this carousel is classic. A ride on this piece of history cannot be missed.
Another famous part of this park is the fountain that is located here. Four walking paths meet at the fountain from the four corners of the park.
The paths are well lit and very romantic at night. The Franklin Square Fountain was built out of marble in the year 1838.
It is surrounded by wrought iron fences, which have recently undergone restoration procedures. The fountain is a beautiful addition to this square.
The Franklin Square was originally called the "North East Public Square." It was renamed in 1825 in memory of the famous Benjamin Franklin.
It is 7.5 acres in size. In the beginning, the square was used as a cattle and horse pasture for the animals that were to be sold in the market.
It was also used as a cemetery for a short period of time. During the War of 1812, this square was also used as a drill and parade area for the military.
This area was used extensively for other means well before it became the beautiful city park it is today. The park itself is an earmark of the history of this town.
It did not become an actual park until 1837. The other four squares that were designed at the same time are now used for other purposes.
These squares are known as the Rittenhouse, Washington, Logan and Center Square. The City Hall is located by the Center Square.
There is a local restaurant by Franklin Square called the SquareBurger. They sell classic hot dogs, fries, milkshakes, hamburgers and cheeseburgers.
Another local attraction is the Please Touch Museum. This museum is specifically designed for children who cannot keep their hands off of things.
Everything in this museum is touchable. Touching the objects is even encouraged.
The Please Touch museum has been open since 1976. Today, it is located in Fairmount Park.
It is dedicated to education and fun. Do not think this museum is only for children however.
It is also a lot of fun and very interesting for adults. For example, in the section for the Adventures of Alice in Wonderland, you can play croquet with the Queen and enjoy tea with the Mad Hatter.
In the Nature's Pond section, you will find animals all over the place. In the Fairytale Garden, your children can relive the classic fairytales.
There is also a live theatre that is enjoyable for the whole family. The best time to visit the museum is on sunny days, when most people are enjoying other outdoor activities.
