Volkswagen have been manufacturing the Golf since 1974, the Golf has been VW's most popular model. The front wheel drive version of the Golf was the initial replacement for the Beetle. The most popular variation of the Golf is the 3 door hatchback.
The latest Golf generation was introduced in 2009 and went on sale in 2010; Kelley Blue Book has included the VW Golf TDI among its Top 10 Green cars for 2010.
A favourite variation of the Golf has been the Golf GTi, a must have high performance vehicle popular all over the world. The new Golf GTi has lived up to the amazing looks left by its predecessors; the Golf has always been popular because of its performance, handling and "thrill" to drive.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI in Taunton has a 0-62mph time of just 6.9 seconds; it can reach a top speed of 150mph and has 226bhp. Even the non turbo version has 197bhp and can do 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds.
As we have come to expect of the Golf GTi it feels poised and alert, it seems to keep finding grip. The steering is responsive and provides enough feedback without any nasty kickbacks. As an optional extra you can have VW's new Adaptive Chassis Control which gives three suspension setting; sport, comfort and normal.
As well as hot hatches the Golf GTi can also give the executive saloons a good run for their money, the GTi is quieter than most executive saloons on the motorway yet open the throttle and the roar is glorious. So, not only is the Golf attractive to younger drivers but also the slightly older and business driver.
