The VW Polo has been Volkswagen's Supermini since 1975; it is available as a 5 door and 3 door hatchback. In some parts of the world it is also available as a saloon and coupe. The Polo has proven popular with young drivers and female drivers due to its size, economy and reliability.

The new Polo takes a lot of design inspiration from its bigger brother the VW Golf; this is particularly evident in the front end design. It is quite difficult to distinguish the Polo and Golf from just the front view.

The Polo is available with a few engine choices, the entry level 1.2 litre comes with either 59 or 69bhp, there is a 1.4 litre petrol too. The better engine choices are the 1.2 litre turbo and the supercharged turbo 1.4 GTI. There are also two diesel options, the 74bhp 1.2 litre or the 89bhp 1.6 litre.

Driving the Polo around town is effortless, the feather light steering make harsh turnings bearable. Unlike the Ford Fiesta the Polo does appear to have a little body roll, but it is consistent and predictable and once you have mastered this the Polo can be just as fun to drive.
