Volunteering is a life-changing experience that will build your confidence and broaden your horizons. It gives you another way to look at how others live and may give you the confidence and outlook to make changes in your own life. It is also something that can give extra depth to any CV.
Who Volunteers?
Volunteers come to Alliance Nepal from all walks of life. Whatever your background, age or travelling plans, Alliance Nepal will have others like you, possibly in your own volunteering group.
We cater for a lot of gap year, undergraduate and graduate students who are taking the opportunity to find out more about themselves and spend their year out in a productive way, often as Change Your Life
part of a larger travelling plan.
Some of our volunteers are individuals, couples, families or groups (for which we offer discounts) who want to make the most of their annual holiday. This gives them valuable experience in a beautiful country, and makes those post-holiday conversations at home that little bit more interesting. We also work with corporate groups who do the volunteering work as part of a team-building exercise, bonding groups together in a way they have never done before.
People also choose to volunteer when they are on a career break. For many, working with the communities and environment in Nepal is about as far as they can get from the humdrum office life they have been living day-to-day. It gives them another perspective on life, maybe refreshing them - giving their career a new lease of life, or even giving them confidence to see a whole new future plan.
Last but certainly not least, we have a number of retirees who want to spend some of the newly-found free time working to do good in the world. The fact that people no longer work does not mean that they do not have valuable input to give, and this is one way to keep yourself active whilst doing something meaningful to others.

What Volunteers do
On arrival...
When you arrive at your Venture destination, you'll be greeted by your In-Country Co-ordinator. They will provide you with a full orientation briefing to help familiarize you with your new surroundings and workplace, while you spend your first couple of days settling in. You will also receive a schedule of your Venture's day-to-day activities.
Your venture begins...
At first, things might seem strange and perhaps a little daunting, but don't worry you'll soon find that you will grow into your new role, and adapt naturally to your surroundings. By the time your venture comes to an end, you probably won't want to go home.
You'll be given the chance to be involved in all aspects of your venture, and will be encouraged to be constructive about meeting day to day challenges. Showing initiative and making suggestions are welcomed, but communicating and working well with the local people and your fellow volunteers is as equally important. Naturally, volunteers are expected to be enthusiastic and committed to their chosen Venture organization.
Alliance Nepal volunteers always have their weekends free to relax, reflect and explore their local surroundings - a perfect time to perhaps start planning another venture! It's also a great time to prepare your working week.
