There are almost ten million new sexually transmitted diseases diagnosed in young adults between the ages of 15 and 24.
58% of young adults believe it is not acceptable for unmarried teens to have sex.
87% of teens surveyed believe their peers should not be ashamed of their virginity.
These are some powerful statistics and even though there aren't marked improvements in teen pregnancy yet, there does exist the very real probability that the tides are shifting and teens are beginning to realize abstinence allows them to focus on other important aspects of their lives. When a young adult is not overwhelmed with fears over their sexual contact the night before, they're free to enjoy every other aspect of this important time in life. They know the only 100% way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy is to abstain from intimacy.
There is one more statistic that's rather startling: 79% of all young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 admit to wishing they would have waited before having sex.
With the CDC reporting one in four sexually active teens and young adults will contract a STD, this puts in perspective another important reason for one to carefully consider whether the sacrifice is worth it.
