The question, which martial art is the best is almost impossible to answer. I think the question should be, which is the best martial art for the person asking the question. There are hundreds of established martial arts from not only Asia but all over the world. If we count new eclectic styles the list is endless. All have their champions, and training syllabus, strong and weak points. Each art is known for a group of techniques and philosophies that they employ. To discuss all of these arts would require, many books and would certainly be beyond the scope of this article and the knowledge of this author. Since the advent of the Internet, along with many books, magazines, tournaments , it is easy to obtain information as to what style or art he or she would like to learn. There are established masters of these arts, and schools in every city.

To get back to the title of this article, which is the best martial art? My question to them is which is better for you. Distance , time and cost plays a major roll in deciding which martial art would be best for them to learn. I'm saying this, because learning a martial art requires dedication and commitment. Is the instructor knowledgeable about their martial art? How old is the person who wants to train, and how is his or her health? The future student should do research, to get an idea what art would be good for them to learn. Different martial arts are known for having a speciality. Grappling, striking, oriental weapons, kick boxing internal verses external arts etc. Only the potential student can make the decision as to what martial art to learn.
