WWE's PPV Struggle

WWE's PPV Struggle

WWE's PPV Struggle

This all started a couple of years ago; WWE constantly start changing their pay-per-view names to these very simple and boring names (ex Fatal Four Way, Money in the Bank, etc).

This is nothing new, though. WWE has been changing their PPV names ever since the company opened. But the difference now is that these names have been very dumbed down, they're not creative and worst of all, they sound very odd. Now the big question is why are they doing this? Well, the answer is actually quite simple, to improve buy rates for their current target audience.

If you already haven't noticed, WWE's new target audience is kids. Their product is no longer TV-14. WWE wants to make the names of their monthly PPVs as simple as possible, so that their target audience purchases them on a monthly basis. The more important reason, though, is to increase the buy rate for these PPVs because WWE is too lazy to properly build hype and anticipation for them.

In other words, because WWE is too lazy to make a quality product (it doesn't matter who they target, it matters on the quality of the product they're offering) they're using the names of the PPV to promote themselves. WWE quickly changing all these names seems like a cheap effort to increase the buy rates for these PPVs.

The problem with these new PPVs is that there are way too many of the same gimmick matches on the same night. For example, Hell in a Cell featured 3 different Hell in a Cell matches. That's way overdoing it. Another example was TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. A Hell in a Cell match used to be a brutal feud ending match. Gimmick matches like Hell in a Cell and Tables Ladders & Chairs weren't originally designed to be used the way they're currently are. This is why they aren't working.

When WWE's first classic PPV was removed, Survivor Series, many fans were enraged that a 22 year old traditional PPV has been removed. The reason Vince gave was very unsatisfying. He said they decided to cut Survivor Series because the buy rates for the show are steadily decreasing every year.

In reality, they're decreasing because WWE doesn't put in the proper effort to hype a good quality PPV. The Survivor Series PPV can be very entertaining if WWE puts in the proper effort to promote, hype, and build it. Vince hasn't revealed the name of the PPV that will take Survivor Series place. But it's bound to be something boring as their current set of names.

It's sad that because WWE is too lazy to produce a quality PPV, they're changing the names of all their monthly PPVs; many of which were very entertaining.
