Walking with God
Walking with God
Walking with God
It's sometimes hard to imagine my life without God. I have grown up with him around me. From a young age I was dragged' to church, not really knowing what it was all about.
Living life could be described as having your own island and depending on how you live your life depends on how your island looks. You can build bridges to the ones you love and care about. Most people forget about that one bridge we have to build, to the most important person who saved us all while we turned our backs on him. Some of you might have started building that bridge to God but got sidetrack along the way. Others might have built that bridge with the help of others but too scared to cross it. I'm not saying that when we give our lives to God it becomes easier and everything works out, it doesn't, but when you have your high and low moments you know that God will be with you every step of the way, carrying you through the hard times and rejoicing with you through the good times.
I'm reminded of the poem, "footprints". When it says, "the times when you have seen only one set of footprints is when I carried you." That speaks so strongly to me and has helped me through so many moments of my life when I've thought that I can't carry on.
Friends might turn their backs on you and walk away but inside of me I know I will always have the most important friend, always. I look on God as my saviour, my hope, guide and light of the world. He is the ever-lasting God, he is my Dad.
Throughout my life I haven't had that earthly dad figure that most people have had. The one they can turn to for protection and guidance. The dad they can run to just because they need a hug. I have planted in my mind that my dad left, then why shouldn't God? In some ways that has made me keep a distance from God, maybe thinking that God will leave some day too, never forming that close relationship with him incase of getting hurt but God has shown me otherwise in so many ways.
I was waiting for ages for my "burning bush" from God, waiting for something to happen that will prove himself but I realized that God has already given me the gift of life and freedom which is more than I could ask for. People always look on the negatives of life and what they don't have. What they don't see is what they already have. I look at my life and sure, its not perfect but I spend less time looking at what would make it better and more time thanking God for the amazing family and friends I have and enjoying life, taking each day as it comes, John 10:10 says, "I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full".
