The next choice you will need to make is your source of power. There are a few different choices. Using a wall outlet close to your desired light position is one option. If that doesn't suit your design idea you might want to have the fixture wired directly into your home's electrical system. A third option is to use self contained wall lighting where the lights operate on a battery contained within the lighting fixture.

Once you have determined the type of wall lights and the positioning in your room that best delivers the results you desire, there are still some choices to make.

You can buy fixtures that match the furniture and decorations in your room. Some of the common types of wall fixtures that add a decorative touch are colonial style, art-deco style, tiffany style, and lanterns.

Wall sconce is the name normally given a light fixture connected to a wall. Normally wall sconces have one arm or bar extending out into the room from the wall. These also come in a wide selection of models.

The selection of wall lights does indeed require a lot of planning, but allows you to exhibit your decorative flair. Remember to make a plan and ask as many questions as possible, and you should be happy with your new wall lights.
