The wall-paper that you have used to cover the un-plastered interior walls of your house needs your attention
. The colours of this paper have faded and it radiates an ugly sad look on the whole house.
Although you need not hire any professionals for this job, it can be frustrating.
When you tear the papers off the wall, bits and pieces still glued strongly to the wall wont come-off easily. It is this bits and pieces that would take the toll on you.
Here, we have few suggestions and tips that would make the job easier for you. They are the most commonly used (while removing wallpaper) simple and easy steps which would see you through a wall completely stripped of wallpaper;
i) Dry stripping;
Here, you need to loosen the corners of the wallpaper with a putty knife and slowly peel it back at an angle of 10-15 degree.
Be careful while removing the paper from drywall (gypsum). The wall may come off.
ii) Soaking and scraping it off;
This method is employed when bits and pieces of papers are left on the wall after dry stripping. It is recommended that you first resort to warm water and then, wallpaper removal solvent.
Soak the surface with either of the liquid depending on the requirement. You may use a spray bottle, but remember that the most effective way to get the solution on the wall and not all over the floor is to use a paint roller or a spray bottle. Then scrape the sodden paper off with a wide taping knife or a wallpaper scraper.
iii) Giving steam bath
There are wallpaper steamer that you can rely on, if the above two methods does not work. This is especially useful incase of wall surface that are not smooth or paint applied over wall papers.
