Light is life. We humans are lucky to have a wonderful source of light in the form of sun which is placed at the right distance and provides just the right brightness. During darkness or after the sun sets, artificial light sources brighten up our habitats in much the same way.
A wall sconce is one such accessory which illuminates many dwellings. In the olden days, they were typically made of stone or plaster; to hold a torch or candle. However, a wall scone has evolved over a period of time. Contemporary wall sconces are available in an array of materials such as glass, metal, fabric, fibre, plastic and other composite materials.
So what is a
Wall Sconce? It is a wall mounted lamp which is set above the ground, high on the wall. Its illumination faces upwards to accentuate an object or ceiling. They are fitted to provide ambience or diffused spot lighting. Sconce is derived from a French word Esconce which means covering or protection.
A wall sconce is available in a myriad of designs; some half open while some are fully covered to provide that moon effect.

Chandelier is yet another form of lamp which is hung from the ceiling to provide light and add appeal. Chandeliers are typically constructed from glass or other transparent or translucent materials. It consists of several light bulbs; some even shaped as a candle.
The body is intricately made from cut glass in several floral or geometric designs, while the holders and other attachments are made of brass or gold plated material. This combination gives a chandelier an elegant and royal look.
These are available in several sizes, some much bigger than a full sized fan. Some of less popular ones are made from ceramic or wrought iron. These are typically used in old houses or homes which are designed in a classic way.
Some of the vintage and antique
Lamps typically used oil to provide light and were made from bronze or brass. Even today they are cherished for their excellent craftsmanship, authentic components and pure materials. However, even they have transformed enormously; available in many contemporary avatars.
Table, floor, speciality lamp which can be moved or set in various places are some of the examples. They are crafted from a range of materials. Some have long necks while the others short. There are yet others which taper at the top. Metal, wood and terracotta are some of the popular materials used to craft them.
