For some people, owning a car that does the basics

, such as driving them from A to B safely and securely, is all that they need.

Other people look for cars that provide something a little extra, such as a certain degree of luxury in respect of leather seats or a CD multi-changer with an MP3 connection.

Some others, however, take their requirements to a whole new level and look for ultimate luxury, beautiful aesthetics and fantastic performance.

If you're one of these people - or are simply interested to know what type of cars fit this bill - take a look at almost every car from the following 4 manufacturers.

1. Bentley - established in 1919, Bentley started life as a small company and struggled financially for many years, requiring the help of Woolf Barnato, a millionaire racing driver and several other automobile experts, who came to be known as the Bentley Boys.

Helping the company survive for over two decades, Bentley was bought by Rolls-Royce in 1931 and it's this era (until the company was sold to Volkswagen in 1998), that the trademark Bentleys were produced.

From the S1 (that entered Bentley dealers in 1955), which had a straight 6 4.9 litre engine, automatic gearbox and that could reach 60 miles per hour in just over 13 seconds to the Turbo RT (available in Bentley dealers in 1997), which due to its powerhouse 6.8 litre V8, could cruise almost silently at speeds of over 100 miles per hour and which could reach 152 miles per hour flat out (which considering it is a heavy four door saloon is staggering), all of Bentley's cars have the same guiding principle - perfection.

2. Aston Martin - starting life 6 years before Bentley, Aston Martin has come to be known as a slightly more affordable but still as luxurious car manufacturer. What's more, whilst Bentley's may perform well, there is often more focus on the performance side of Aston Martin's.

For instance, one of the company's most famous cars to date is the DB9. Entering production in 2003, it is manufactured with a 5.9 litre V12 engine, a 6 speed gear box and after reaching 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds (according to track data from Aston Martin), it can touch a top speed of 190 miles per hour.

Couple this with stunning good looks and it's easy to understand why Top Gear consider it so cool - when deciding where to place it on the 'Cool Wall' (a ranking system that shows how cool cars are), they humorously placed it in it's own separate fridge (strangely, the only other car to join it was the Aston Martin V8 Vantage three years later in 2007).

3. Maybach - although most major car brands are available in the UK car market, there are some that whilst being massively popular elsewhere in the world, don't have as much of a following in the UK and one of these brands is Maybach.

A German manufacturer that first started producing cars in 1909, they are known for their superior elegance and especially today, for their high performance.

The Maybach Landaulet, for instance, can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds, which is unbelievable for a car that weighs in excess of 6,000 pounds, due in part to its mass of luxury features, such as soundproof glass partition and granite rear inserts.

With a starting price of over 300,000 pounds, however, it would be expected that the car did everything you expected it to - and a whole lot more.
