He began his career as a web designer but transitioned on to being a website flipper, designing and creating niche sites then selling them for a profit. I was given the chance of interviewing him and he offered a lot of useful information that I'm sure many of those new to the business would really find useful. Here are the 5 main points that Suite J shared on the business of selling startup sites and website flipping in general.
1. Unless you have much passion for what you do, you can always find other ways to make money.
As mentioned earlier, Jay had his start in freelance web designing and while he did find some fulfillment in it, he soon found out that there were a lot of other ways to growing one's income through online ventures. And with his talent for design, one of these ways was through building niche websites. For Jay, another advantage of going into website flipping over that of designing for clients is that he had a lot more control over what he wanted to create without anyone telling him what he should do. Plus, when you build startup sites, you can even sell the same types of sites over and over again.
2. Be ready to provide the best customer service you can offer.
Startup niche sites tend to be more appealing and saleable to individuals who are just starting out to online marketing. As such, they would need extra assistance in getting things going. But even if there are a lot of those who claim to be experienced Internet marketers these days, it's still tough finding someone who can offer that help. Be prepared share what knowledge you have to potential clients and they will not forget you on their way up.
3. Don't be tempted to do everything on your own.
We can't be good in everything, so with those skills that aren't your strongest, find individuals who can do it. Jay's expertise lies in his design work. Website flipping however, requires a complete package so for the article needs of his sites, he outsources the work.
4. Try to be different from everyone else.
One foolproof way of becoming a success in website flipping is being able to successfully identify yourself with a particular niche. Come up with resourceful ways of doing things and offer value-added services that are not easy to come by.. For instance, how about throwing in some high-quality articles together with the website you are selling? That's a proposal not too many can refuse. But you have to innovate as often as possible because remember, others can do the same thing too..
5. Make a mailing list.
This may not sound like much to a newbie site flipper, but Jay says that this could be one of your primary weapons in building your network of followers or potential buyers. To be able to communicate messages which are custom-made for the subscribers you are targetting, you should think about having two lists: one for those who have actually bought a website from you, and another for those who may buy one in the future.
