Following guidelines might help you to increase the longevity of your towel.

New bath towels achieve their full absorbency and softness only after three to four washes. Instead of waiting for them to be washed three to four times what you can do is soak your new towels in water add a cup of ammonia to it, and leave them overnight. Next morning while washing your towels in the machine add a cup of detergent and a cup of clear vinegar. Prefer washing the new bath rags with hot water for the first few washes. Dry them completely to gather the excess lint from the new towel. Remember to clear the lint trap after you are done with it. Don't wash old bath towels with new ones.

Avoid using fabric softeners on your towels. Fabric softeners contain silicon which makes your bath-towel water repellent and hence decrease its absorbency.

Never bleach your towel. It is better to wash your soiled bath-towels with warm water and detergent rather than using bleach on them. Bleach damages the cotton fibers and produces lint. In case your white bath-towels are stained with oil and it is almost unavoidable to use bleach then go for a non-chlorine bleach.

Don't wash your kitchen towels and dusting towels with your bath towels.

Wash and dry your dark and light bath rags separately. It is done in order to retain the brightness of the lighter towels.

Don't reuse water for the next consecutive load, as used water of previous load will contain lint which would contaminate the next lot.

Add a cup of clear vinegar while rinsing your bath ragsthis would not only help you to get rid of any mildew harboring on your towel, but will also restore its absorbency. Vinegar nullifies the effect of any chemical used during wash which may decrease the absorbency of your bath towel.

Shaking your bath towel before putting it into the dryer and again when you take it out of the dryer will plump up the loops on your bath rag and will give it a plush look.

It is always better to trim the pulled loops on your towel with a pair of scissors.

Tumble dry your bath-towels, it makes them fluffy. It is imperative that you tumble dry your towels at low temperatures, as an excess heat may hamper the integrity of the towel.
