book into some Dunedin accommodation and you can enjoy this city full of Scottish ancestry, architecture, and some might say weather.

This city is near the bottom of the South Island, and along the same eastern coast line as Christchurch. Between these two cities are Timaru and Oamaru, and it's worthwhile renting a car to drive through and feel the changing landscape as you travel south, if you can afford the time to do so.

Otago University still pulls in plenty of out of town students every year, and many love to come to this city due to the fact it's a well regarded university. It's worth taking a look at the university and some of the streets students tend to live in as this part of town has an interesting feel to it. If you like old buildings, then the train station is also worth a visit. There are many private homes including Larnach Castle, which are open to visitors viewing.

Of course there is plenty to do for those not studying there, and just planning to make the most of their Dunedin accommodation. For a start the city is home to Cadbury's chocolate factory, and you can book a tour through the place and buy a little chocolate as well. It may not be full of oompa loopmas and chocolate lakes but you're also unlikely to share the fate of some of Willy Wonka's visitors either!

Of course there are plenty of wild places to visit, including several walks to bird colonies and the fur seals. These are weather and season permitting so if you want to see a particular bird or animal it's good to check you've got the best season first.

If you've got the energy to go out after a day of exploring you'll enjoy the vibrant night life in the area. This is a part of the country where many bands form and you may find yourself in a pub somewhere listening to the next big thing. There is a good range of places to enjoy a meal, though of course a pub meal is well worth a try in this city.

Once you've been fed, and enjoyed some entertainment it will be time to head back to your Dunedin accommodation so you'll be ready for your next day of activities.
