If you are like me, then you are probably worried about the condition of your skin

and you are looking for ways to prevent wrinkles from making their appearance.

Well, you will be happy to hear that I have done a little bit of research that I would like to share with you.

First of all, let me tell you the most important reasons why our skin develops wrinkles in the first place:

1) Loss of collagen and elastin: Throughout our lives, our skin produces two very essential proteins: Collagen and elastin. These proteins are the main building blocks of our skin's inner layer, called dermis and are responsible for the elasticity and firmness of our skin. Unfortunately, as we age, our skin produces less and less of these proteins. As a result, our skin begins to lose its underlying strength and wrinkles start to appear.


2) Lower levels of hyaluronic acid: This strange sounding substance is also produced by our skin and it forms part of the tissue that surrounds the collagen and elastin fibers. It has the ability to attract and bind hundreds of times its weight in water. In this way, it acts as a natural moisturising ingredient responsible for the skin's plumpness and moisture reserve.

Like collagen and elastin, however, this also gets depleted as years go by. Thus, our skin loses its ability to hold moisture, resulting in dryness and emergence of wrinkles.

3) Oxidation through the formation of free radicals: These are atoms that are produced within our body, mainly when we expose our skin to the harmful ultraviolet radiation of the sun. They are very reactive and they attack and destroy skin cells.

The rate at which these processes progress, depends on factors that have to do with our own body (for example on the type of genes we have), or external (from the environment).

Apart from the very few who are blessed with strong genes, the rest of us who have gone over those glory days of youth, have to take some precautions in order to retard that dreadful aging process.

Here is my list of ways to prevent wrinkles that I encourage you to follow:

1) If you are not aware it by now, then this is the time to learn the hard fact: The primary external factor for the aging of our skin, is exposure to the sun. Make it a habit always to wear protective clothing to cover your body and a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses, to cover your face. Also, use a high protection sunscreen (SPF larger than 15).

2) Follow a diet rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E.

3) Carefully select an anti aging skin care cream suitable for your skin.

When it comes to selecting the best skin care treatment to prevent wrinkles, bear in mind the following advice I will give you: Stay away from those products that list collagen and/or elastin in their ingredients. The molecules of these proteins are large and therefore your skin does not absorb them when you apply the cream.

Instead, look for ingredients that stimulate your skin's inherent natural processes of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production.


All the above measures will help your skin retain its youthful look and prevent wrinkles from appearing as late as possible, as you get older.
