A virus has turned the earth's population into vampires and now rule the world. For the unfortunate few who are not yet turned, they are being hunted for their blood to near extinction. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the vampires have to develop alternative blood substitutes. The movie portrays vampires as ordinary beings rather than the romanticised immortals or blood-thirsty creatures of the night that they are conventionally seen in this type of movies. A blood specialist, played by Ethan Hawke and a reluctant vampire encounter a group of surviving humans. For reasons that are to be revealed, they agree to help save the humans from extinction.
