4. Grosse Point Blank (1997) John Cusack stars as an hit in this unique dark comedy. His character heads back to his hometown, of Grosse Point, Michigan in order to attend his high school reunion. While there, he intends to complete and assignment by performing another hit that he's been hired to do, but he'll have to evade a hitman who's after him and federal agents. Look for this great film, which received rave reviews, on your satellite TV channels.
3. Roger and Me (1989) As Michael Moore's first film that made it big, this documentary film has had a great impact on the country. The film tells the story of the importance that General Motors played in Detroit, Michigan and the way that massive layoffs that GM's CEO, Roger Smith, authorized. Moore's premise is that those layoffs, which were quite sizable, greatly led to the economic problems that Detroit still faces today. Semi-Pro (2008) Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, Rob Courdry, Will Arnett and Andy Richter star in this silly comedy about three basketball players based in Flint, Michigan who want to make it into the NBA. As part of an American Basketball Association team, the Flint Tropics, the trio need to make sure their team is included as part of a merger that could help them wind up in the NBA.
1. Dreamgirls (2006) This incredible film, tells the fictional story of three female singers but is based on the real story of the Supremes, a musical group that made it big in the 1960s and 70s. The film follows the fictional "Dreams," a group of three young, black, soul singers who hail from Detroit, Michigan and who hope to make it big. Their managers create some tension among the women, and romance and greed are two overwhelming themes that shape the film. Jamie Foxx, Beyonce, Eddie Murphy, and Jennifer Hudson are just a few of the big names that helped this film win two Academy Awards. Find this great musical on your satellite TV channels.
