Wearing a look of constipation throughout most of the movie, the normally very likable Witherspoon has not much to do other than act mildly depressed. Sure, there are scenes in which Lisa does stand up to her baseball player beau after he displays a bit of narcissism (a millionaire baseball playerNO!) and sexism but Witherspoon just goes through the motions, almost as if she knows the screenplay is utter dross but there's nothing she can do about it because she signed her contract and it wouldn't look good if she backed out considering Brooks is an industry legend (whose powers, as evidenced by this crapfest, is fading fast).

Wilson (eyes flicker with a dawning realization): I must be in love then.
And this from a man who helped shepherd the great "Mary Tyler Moore Show" to iconic TV glory? Paul Rudd following the success of his latest project surprises the audience with his lively performance by enriching the movie content with his involvement. Owen Wilson also comes up with a memorable piece of acting in this movie and the eccentric character traits he carries out make everyone to have nice surprising feeling empowering them. Jack Nicholson too fulfills his duty by starring in a prominent role and his involvement in the movie makes it to sound more interesting.
