The sequence focuses on Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), his daughter Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), and his boy Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) who live in Los Angeles. Claire can be a homemaker mom married to Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell); they've 3 children. Jay is married to some significantly younger Colombian woman, Gloria (Sofa Vergara), and is helping her boost her pre-teen son, Manny. Mitchell and his companion Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) have adopted a Vietnamese baby, Lily.

Jay's household attempts to purpose in spite of the age difference among himself and his wife. Claire's loved ones tries to punish their son and view over her daughter and her new boyfriend. Mitchell attempts to hide the fact that he and his companion Cameron have adopted a daughter in Vietnam from his family members until Cameron invites Mitchell's household without consulting him (which is revealed to become the other two families).

Jay attempts to demonstrate his stepson he could be a good father; Phil attempts to teach his son a lesson by stealing his bike, but gets in difficulty when he discovers he got the incorrect bicycle; and Cameron and Mitchell bring Lily to a play group and attempt to act straight.
