with seeing a mega-hyped movie a few weeks after it opened in the theaters is that it can never live up to those heaping piles of hype. I had that experience with The Blair Witch Project many years ago and again this past weekend when I finally got to see Paranormal Activity.

From the way people have been talking about the film, rightly or wrongly I expected more from it -- specifically, more scares. It's not that the movie in completely ineffective, but it's certainly not effective enough as a ghost story to become a classic, as some have promoted it to be.

When Paramount picked up Oren Pelis low budget horror flick Paranormal Activity a couple of years back, they had initially intended to simply remake it with a bigger budget. After running some test screenings of the original, however, it played so well that they eventually decided to give it a small theatrical release last October and the thing took off like a rocket, making $193 million worldwide and becoming one of the most profitable movies ever. Now the inevitable sequel is nearly upon us, and although there was some initial excitement with directors like Brian De Palma and Brad Anderson showing interest in it, in the end, they had to settle for Kip Williams (The Door in the Floor).

The first teaser trailer for Paranormal Activity 2 will be attached to The Twilight Saga: Eclipsethis weekend, but for those of us who arent Twi-hards, it has also been released online. I gotta say, even as a teaser trailer, its pretty disappointing. First of all, it basically spoils the ending of the original film, so if you havent seen Paranormal Activity, you might not want to watch. On top of that, theres not much shown except for a creepy girl in a doorway. I guess at least we know that it will maintain the same style of the original, potentially taking place in a house with surveillance cameras in multiple rooms. Oh, and theres a baby and a dog in the house too. Granted, making a trailer strictly out of surveillance footage isnt easy, but I dont think this is selling anyone on anything. Why must horror sequels always suck? Paranormal Activity 2 hits theatres on October 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
