Watch World Cup: Enjoy The Wonders Of Cape Town
If you're planning to watch the world cup live in South Africa
, you should expect to travel the country quite a little bit. Many of the events are taking place in Johannesburg, but there are also a number of matches that will be held in the seaside resort town of Cape Town.While you may be such a football fan that you don't care about anything else, for most people visiting this island of tranquility on the coast of South Africa, it's a chance to take in some of the local sights. So, for the tourist in you, here are a couple of idea of things you simply must see while visiting:
No trip to Cape Town is complete without a stop at Table Mountain, of the most beautiful sites on Earth. This lovely sandstone mountain is by far the most famous Cape Town landmark and one visit will show you exactly why people keep coming back year after year.
At the top of the mountain is what is literally a flat "table top." The table top stretches for three kilometers and is flanked by Devil's Peak on one side and Lion's Head on the other. It's enough to almost make you forget that you came to watch the world cup (hey, I said almost).
Probably the most majestic site of all is when a south easterly wind blows and actually create a "table cloth" of clouds over the top, partially obscuring the view of the front of the mountain. In addition to the incredible views, you can also visit the Table Mountain reserve which is home to a diverse number of rare flowers, including many species that are endangered.
The mountain is a favorite with hikers, climbers and amblers with over 550 well marked paths to choose from. Make sure you come with all the necessities for a hike though as the weather here has been known to change at a moment's notice.
For those who just don't do hikes but still want to enjoy all the beauty nature has to offer, try a cable car which will take you on a five minute ride up the side of the mountain where you can dine on the table top at the top of the world.
Of course if you're going to a seaside resort, you want to make sure to hit the beach and one of the nicest ones is Camps Bay Beach. This lovely beach is set with pine trees and faces the Atlantic Ocean.
Set at the foot of a series of beautiful mountain peaks known as the Twelve Apostles, but still just a short 10 minutes from the center of town by car, it is an ideal choice if you want to escape the hot South African summer in between matches.
