Among various accessories in fashion, one of the most emblematic is the watch

. The history of watches starts a few centuries ago. Different technologies have been used during all these years to create such an exquisite object. Before the use of wristwatches, the pocket watch was commonly used in civilized countries. In the First World War, the pilots needed another type of watch. One that they could use while they had both hands busy. So, leaving the chain aside, the pocket watch was redesigned and attached to their wrists with a strap or a bracelet.

The wristwatch made his way to the top very fast. Using a bracelet or a strap, they were easily attached to the wrist and easy to use, without too much discomfort. They were named "trench watches", because the soldiers have used them for the first time in battles.

A few decades later, after the wristwatches were introduced on market, engineers have developed electric watches which were more accurate. After that, quartz watches took the place of electric ones, using both electric and/or mechanic movement. Watches in modern days are very different. Most of them use a battery which doesn't need to be rewound periodically by the user.

Quartz watches can use mechanical or electric movement technology or both. Designed for different purposes, they may have various functions besides displaying the right time. Many watches also have a display for the date, a compass or other useful features. Watches can be made of different materials such as plastic, metal and precious stones etc. Golden watches are more expensive than the regular ones, but often they give a better impression to the user. Fashion designers are using the watches not just to match the outfits they have created, but also to give a more accurate perspective on people's personality.

Watches in modern days not only displays the time but also the date. Designers have created watches with many other functions, depending on use. They can have alarms, compasses and many other features. People even designed special watches for diving or for space travel. Basically, for any type of outfit, there is a watch that can match it.
