Modern technology has brought us conveniences never conceived twenty years ago

. Some of them are to make our lives more efficient and others are for pure entertainment. That is where advertisers produce ads that make you believe you can live without these appliances. Video game consoles are such an appliance. Kids are begging their parents to buy one for them. They want to play video games and pretend to be Tiger Woods with the WII system. Each version of these consoles is becoming more advanced.

These game consoles are great because, well, first of all they play games, but they can do so much more. The PS3 plays DVD's as well as Blu-ray's. Have you watched a movie on the BD format? It is like night and day with a DVD. DVD's are still great and I will not be getting rid of mine any time soon, but when I buy a movie now, especially a movie that is a high action special effect roller coaster, I make sure to get it on Blu-ray.

Unlike the theater, you don't have to wait in line, sit in an uncomfortable chair and tell people to be quiet. Viewing can be done from the comfort of your recliner. When you become hooked on Blu-ray and decide to purchase one for your home, you'll discover that it comes as a stand alone player or an additional to a game console such as a PS3. Buying the PS3 provides more versatility than just the stand alone.

Some of the features offered with the game systems are downloading of your favorite's music tunes and pictures. You can even access the web but I wouldn't choose this as the primary computer source. You can access all kinds of television shows, movies and of course still play your favorite games. Tennis, anyone?

One thing to keep in mind while shopping for a console is to purchase a HDMI cable. Unfortunately, for the cost of the console, it doesn't include this cable. Get some help at the store to explain the difference in cost since they can range from twenty to hundred dollars. This cable allows you to watch the movies in HD.
