Water Filtration: Problem Solving On Your Own
Do you happen to recall the last time the filter was switched out
? The filter's job is to trap particles in the water in hopes of keeping them from coming out of the tap. It is generally recommended that the filter be changed in regular intervals, usually about every month to ninety days. Older filters can easily get clogged with random gunk. If this is the case, simply replace the filter. If your filter is reusable, then clean it, and return it to the designated spot.
Once the filter has been replaced or cleaned, run the water to make sure the system is working as it should. If you still detect a problem, there may be a component within the filter pump that has gone bad, or perhaps just needs cleaning. Take apart the system and check for build up that may be causing the restricted water flow. If no corrosion or clogging is found, you may need to replace the pump.
Problem 2: Tank Damage
Most filters require water movement at a good clip in order for the filtration system to work adequately. The tank may be overly corroded or simply hit the end of it's life span and be unable to deliver water to the filter at the pressure required, causing need for replacement. There may also even be an issue with the amount of pressure the tank is receiving.
Inspect the pressure and be sure it is set correctly for the area's municipal pressure. Pressure can vary greatly from block to block in a designated neighborhood, and may be the cause of the functional difference in the unit's functionality. If the pressure is found at a low level, there may be a larger issue involving clogged pipes from the street, such as tree roots or debris build-up.
Problem 3: Water Type
There are cases in which the water in the area is just too difficult for the filter to manage. This can be due to extremes in soft or hard water, which can often cause mineral sediment build-up in filters and pipes rather quickly. In such instances, a purifier just may be the solution. Purifiers tend to have a longer life span than that of filters. Some are filter free, while others are equipped with their own filtering system.
