Ways To Be More Comfortable At Trade Show Exhibits
Manning trade show booths can make for a very long and tiring day
. Not only do exhibitors have to stand on their feet for most of the day, but they also have to exert considerable energy talking with attendees and trying to sell their products and services. However, dressing correctly, being equipped with necessary items, and gaining experience by doing multiple trade show exhibits can go a long way toward making the day more comfortable.
Dress Appropriately
For such a long day, exhibitors at trade show booths should dress comfortably. First and foremost, wear comfortable shoes. Though you want to dress nicely and may feel that running shoes do not go with your outfit, don't wear heels or you will be cursing that decision by the end of the day. If you must dress in a business casual style, choose flat shoes with lots of arch support, and consider buying foam inserts as well.
Dress in layers, or bring a light jacket, so you can be comfortable whether the convention hall is hot or cold. Avoid wearing clothes that are unflattering by being either too tight or too loose. You don't want to dress too revealing, or be stuffed into pants that are too small. On the other hand, clothes that are too baggy send out an image that is unprofessional and sloppy.
Things To Have On Hand In Trade Show Booths
There are certain items that are very useful to keep with you at trade show exhibits. Have an emergency kit containing items like duct tape, scissors, safety pins, and extra light bulbs for any display mishaps. Also throw in some band-aids, pain relief medication, and antacids - you never know when an accident may occur, or a stress headache may arise. Have breath mints, a couple of bottles of water, and some lip balm on hand as well. The air in convention centers can often be stale and dry, so these will help you stay hydrated.
Practice Makes Perfect
Finally, being comfortable at trade show exhibits are not just about being physically at ease. The idea of having to speak with a steady stream of visitors and convince them to buy your products or services can be stressful as well, especially for those without a lot of experience. In this case, practice makes perfect. Exhibitors gain a lot of confidence simply by having manned trade show booths before. If this is your first event, speak with other employees in your company to find out about their experience and ask them for tips. Go over the goals that the company is trying to meet by exhibiting, and make sure to be fully knowledgeable about the products and services being offered. Practice introducing yourself to attendees and asking open-ended questions.
By dressing suitably and wearing comfortable shoes, having certain necessities on hand, and gaining experience with trade events, exhibitors should be more at ease at trade show exhibits.
