Ways To Get Rid Of Cat Flea Easily

Many cat owners struggle with the age-old issue of how to get rid of fleas on their beloved pets. They are a source of annoyance for the animal but they also pose potential health risks for humans as well. With a single female laying as many as fifty eggs a day, the problems can quickly develop into a major infestation. Let's take a closer look at the development process and plans for treatment.

Cat flea typically live off of the dried host blood found in the adult fleas' excrement. The larvae spin cocoons and enter what is known as the pupal stage. The length of this varies some, but typically ends after a period of time once the body heat or movement of a host is detected. The new adult flea breaks out of the cocoon, jumping onto the new host immediately. Within minutes, it is feeding on the blood of the new host. It is important to note that quite often, the female's eggs fall from the host and infest carpeting and soft furnishings as well.

The most common problem occurs when cats develop allergies to flea bites. This causes excessive scratching and can result in several skin diseases for the animal. A severe infestation can result in dehydration, particularly in small kittens who are subject to develop overall weakness, anemia and possible life-threatening conditions as a result. Some animals also develop tapeworms as a result of ingesting the fleas during grooming.

Treatment for cat flea can be a bit of a challenge. Adults have a lifespan of two years and larvae can survive for as long as six months. Frequent vacuuming helps, but will not completely eliminate the problem. There are several chemical treatments that have seen great success, as well as some natural products for those cat lovers who are hesitant to use chemical insecticides. Most of these are applied directly on the animal and absorbed into the bloodstream. The insect will ingests the poison in the hosts' blood and dies. Always consult your veterinarian before choosing a course of treatment for your pet. Hopefully, you will have your furry friend flea-free in no time.
