These bugs thrive in damp, wooden areas, and if water damages the wood of a particular building then the result may be disastrous. Most of the time it is seen that due to careless mistakes made on the part of the property owner, termites have managed to cause severe damages. There are some simple ways to prevent problems caused by termites by taking care of such mistakes: 1. Wood against the residence: It is often seen people stacking piles of wood against the house to give them easy access when grabbing firewood during cold winter seasons. Install a drainage system to remove the standing water or get rain gutters installed along the roof which will help prevent moisture from getting into the soil near the base of your residence. 3. Wooden structures touching the soil: Remember to have a barrier between the soil and any wooden structures. Best option to make such a barrier would be concrete; however, sand is also a good option. Just in case you need to have wooden structures like a deck or a shed touching the soil, then make sure to at least treat the wood that is closest to the ground with some form of chemical that will help prevent termites.
