With the coldest November so far, we have been plummeted into what almost feels like an Ice Age

. This means for many nasty colds, stomach bugs, flu and simply feeling weary and tired. Nobody likes being ill, even though a day off work sounds pleasant to most, as it often means you miss out of the fun things, such as the Christmas party, meeting friends down the pub and going out to dinner with the family. Avoid those awful illnesses and feelings of being exhausted, and instead enjoy Christmas being fit and well, by simply looking after yourself physically.

Looking after yourself physically may seem an easy enough task, but with the Christmas seasons almost arctic frost, the temptation to eat and drink in large amounts can become too hard to overcome. Whilst making sure you get your five a day will help to maintain a healthy body, protecting you from illnesses and decreasing the likelihood of severe weight gain, it is only one of the many ways you have to put into practice to keep you fit and healthy in tougher and colder months.

Over indulging is one of the main factors that contribute to weight gain and feeling bloated and ill. Many of us love our sweets at Christmas, but big portions will certainly not do our hips any good. Of course, it is a matter of taking a reasonable and responsible outlook on our diets; eating smaller portions of the bad stuff will make very little difference, but eating a huge chunk of Christmas cake every day will.

As well as eating healthy, drink plenty of water. Drinking water will help you on so many levels, as it helps to cleanse the body, rehydrates the body and helps concentration. Drinking plenty of water is vital, especially during party season when you have a good few drinks. Always drink a glass of water or an herbal tea between drinks to rehydrate your body, as alcohol is a dehydrator.


Exercise is also part of keeping a healthy body and mind. With the days getting darker, most people begin to feel a little depressed, but the solution is simple exercise regularly to get those endorphins (the hormone that triggers happy feelings) running through your body. Throughout the year keep to an exercise routine and try not to slack off during Christmas, as its more important than ever to keep your body fit and healthy, in order to fight off those horrible Christmas illnesses.

As well as getting a good amount of sleep, at least 7 hours per night; its important to your health that you relax during the Christmas season. Although this can be hard with work often placing substantial demands upon you, try to take out some me time every day or spend an hour with your friends it will do you a world of good!

Lastly, stack up on the vitamins, which should be a supplement to your diet. They will give you that small boost needed during the Christmas party season. Keeping fit and healthy will not only mean you will look good at the Christmas party, but will positively affect your mind and your resistance to illness.
