Ways To Stop Vaginal Itching And Burning In Bacterial Vaginosis

Vaginal itching, burning sensation and irritation are common symptoms in yeast infection

. These symptoms also occur in bacterial vaginosis (BV), although some women with BV may not experience any symptoms.

Normal cases of vaginal irritation that happen several times at any given points over a woman's live usually it don't require any kind of treatment, as normal vaginal itching gets better naturally when the cause of irritation is removed. However, if the itching or irritation continue, or becomes severe, then a visit to the doctor is necessary to find out what is the cause behind the problem, before it can be treated accordingly.

If you also notice a white to grayish vaginal discharge that smells like fish besides vaginal itching/burning, it could be bacterial vaginosis (BV).

BV is usually treated with antibiotics in the form or oral tablet or vaginal cream/gel to get rid of the BV causing bacteria and, thus, eradicate the symptoms of vaginal itching, discharge and smell. However, the symptoms may appear on and off before BV clears up.

If that's the case, you may try some over-the-counter (OTC) solutions and natural remedies to relieve your vaginal itching symptoms.

1. OTC solutions

Keep a vaginal anti-itch cream handy. It prevents unwanted itching at the most inappropriate of time. Vaginal anti-itch creams are generally safe to use at the vaginal area, and it also contains anesthetic agent to suppress the itch.

Most vaginal anti-itch creams also contain external analgesics and anti-pruritics. You may want to choose a cream that has added vitamins A, E and D to sooth the irritated vaginal skin.

Do note that these anti-itch creams only stop minor itching. They don't have antimicrobial effects. Using anti-itch creams may only provide temporary relief to your symptoms, but do not cure BV if no other treatment is used to target the cause of the problem.

You still need to seek appropriate medical treatment or use natural remedies to treat BV at its root causes.

2. Lifestyle changes

You may want to change certain things you do every day in order to get rid of vaginal itching or prevent it from getting worse.

* Do not scratch, otherwise you will further irritate the affected area.

* Refrain from sexual intercourse until the symptoms improve.

* Keep the vaginal area cool by wearing only cotton underwear, which absorbs moisture and sweat well.

* Use cold compresses on the vaginal area to reduce irritation and inflammation.

* Stop using colored or scented toilet paper. The chemicals may cause further skin irritation.
