Ways to Avoid Putting Your Partner on a Pedestal
Ways to Avoid Putting Your Partner on a Pedestal
There is always one person who has stronger feelings for their partner than their partner has for them. In a perfect world, both of you would have totally equal feelings for each other, but in the world we live in this rarely happens. Think of it as more of goal to work towards than something that defines your relationshipPlease don't take this as a knock on relationships. This is actually quite the contrary. It is perfectly normal for someone in a relationship to have stronger feelings for the other person, and this is totally normal. The difference in the amount that you and your partner have feelings for each other is the dynamic that you need to pay attention to and be careful about. Let me give you an example. When one person is always at their partner's beckon call, the relationship will struggle to work. I have been there and done that. That actually will work on a short term as you are feeling good that you are making the other person happy and they are happy because you are doing all these things for them. The problem comes when you don't get the love you are putting into the relationship back.I use this as an extreme example just to show you what can happen, because it has to me, but most relationships are somewhat less extreme. What you want to do is work on how you display your feelings. You cannot change your feelings, but you can work on how you display them. If you are the one that has stronger feelings, all you need to do is just tone it down a bit. Work on waiting for your partner to do something for you before you do something loving for them again. On the other side of the coin, if you are on the receiving end of someone who has stronger feelings for you then you have some work to do as well. Show your partner that you're feeling closely match the feelings your partner is giving you. Showing your feelings by doing things for your partner on the same scale that you are receiving them is a good way to show them that you have feelings on the same level as they do.Just remember that no one is perfect and while you may think that treating someone as if they were and that they make no mistakes is good, it can really hurt a relationship. Doing so is what is called putting your partner on a pedestal and for the relationship to continue to work, you must avoid doing this. It is not easy for either side. You probably feel like the feelings you are giving your partner are not being returned in full if you feel that you are the one giving more than your partner is. It is tough to have your partner build you up when you have to handle the pressure that comes with being put on a pedestal when you are the one being pictured in that light.
