We Continue To Play Cat And Mouse With The Chinese

We have been playing a cat and mouse game with the Chinese for many years

. They are the worlds largest country in terms of population and they need to make some moves for their own benefit. Their sheer size demands that they consume many natural resources that they dont have at this time. They will need to be able to supply their countries needs which is probably driving their drive for world dominance.

The Chinese has several ongoing disputes with the countries which are located in the area of the South China Sea. They claim the entire region as their own without regard to the other countries which border the area. The Chinese have current ongoing disputes with the Malaysians, Brunei, the Phillipines, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The Chinese claim all of the natural resources in this area as their own to include the fishing.

The Chinese are involved in a major naval buildup with many weapon systems which are offensive in nature but which they claim they need for defensive purposes. Their aims are transparent to me and Im not a genius by any means but I am sure that people who are much higher than I am are well aware of their intentions. They also own many financial assets in the United States.

The US has countered the weapons development by seemingly developing weapons that counter the capabilities of some of the new Chinese weapon systems. They have also begun to develop a doctrine which is intended to address the possibility of war with China by expanding the capabilities and responsibilities of our navy and its equipment. This doctrine integrates our existing systems into a plan which incorporates air, space, land, sea, and under the sea weapons systems into a synergistic program to conduct warfare against the perceived threat and to defeat it.

Relations in the area are tense because of the North Korean sinking of the South Korean Cheonan recently. The Chinese have refused to place any blame on North Korea even though an international team of investigators have determined that they were responsible for the incident. Subsequently the United Nations refused to assign blame in the incident so that now there wont be any international sanctions against them.

The United States has the advantage right now in naval technology but the Chinese are rapidly attempting to narrow the gap with some of the technology that they are developing. They are in the process now of developing a missile which is intended to be able to take out our aircraft carriers. The purpose of this is to neutralize our carrier advantage by denying their access to areas within range and restricting their movement.

They are also looking to purchase or build aircraft carriers to bolster their forces. They claim that they need these weapons for defensive purposes but the majority of the new weapons systems that they are purchasing are offensive.

The Chinese are normally belligerent in their dealings with us and other countries. I often wonder how much more belligerent they will become when they finally acquire the weapons that they need to complete their plans for domination.

The United States has recently established an alliance with Vietnam in order to gain some influence in the area and stop the Chinese domination of the nations in the area. The future is unclear when it comes to our dealings with the Chinese but we need to be prepared for them to be a potential adversary. Military Ring Express
