This is not to be confused with surgical steel. Small amounts of nickel are released from the stainless steel that can potentially cause a skin allergy to occur.

One of the best ways to prevent possible skin irritation is to look for earrings that have piercing studs made from at least grade 302 surgical steel. Higher grades are available, so try to find them. The higher the grade of surgical steel, the safer your ears will be. If you are going to buy gold earrings, it would be best to buy pure 24 carat gold. Surgical steel and pure 24 carat gold are two of the most irritant-free materials currently available in the jewelry manufacturing process.

Be careful when buying earrings. Always be aware of the materials used to make the earrings. This will enable you to protect your skin and ensure it is healthy at all times.
