Web Affiliate Marketing - The Top 10 Mistakes
Web Affiliate Marketing - The Top 10 Mistakes
I know that it's probably hard to believe that anyone can create an income through web affiliate marketing, but this is one time where this statement actually rings true.
The reason why you don't hear success story after success story is because there are some very big mistakes that some people make when they first get into the business.
Here are the top 10 biggest mistakes that affiliates make and how you can avoid them in your own business.
Everyone will click onmylink. As an affiliate, it is not your job to "sell" but rather to "pre-sell". And this process entails more than just simply adding a link to your site and expecting all of your site visitors to click on it. It requires a little more effort than that. What benefits does the product have for your site visitor? You can actually give first-hand accounts or favorable recommendations about the product if you actually own the product yourself.
If I build it (my website) people will come. Website traffic that comes for free (that is, organic traffic from the search engines) is absolutely possible to achieve! But it doesn't come without a great deal of work on your end. Just because a website exists doesn't mean that it will get noticed. You have to help it get noticed by submitting articles to article directories such as this one, writing free eBooks that you give away on your site and all over the internet, and having really great content on your website that people find interesting and helpful.
Believing in just one marketing strategy. Some affiliates are under the impression that simply because you submit an article to an article directory, that all of a sudden you will get all of the traffic you need. When you limit yourself to one tactic, you are missing out on plenty of additional traffic that can be found elsewhere. Rather, find multiple marketing avenues. Write an eBook, give it to eBook directories, create videos that get submitted to online video directories, etc.
Not paying attention to your performance. Most affiliates are concerned with one thing and that's how much money they've earned that day. If they happen to see that they aren't making as much as they expected, instead of simply adjusting their tactics and trying to fix the problem, they just give up completely. It's important to understand things like how many people are visiting your site, how many of them are unique, how many come back, how much time they're spending there and so on.
Failing to find an affiliate program which offers products that people actually want to purchase. Some affiliate programs may offer as much as 95% commissions on their product but if their product is below par or virtually impossible to sell, you'll never see this profit.
Failing to find a product that has a track record of customer satisfaction. The credibility of a product depends on how people view it. If the product owner has established great relationships with those who have purchased the product, it will earn a good reputation. You'll have a much easier time pre-selling a product that has happy customers.
Failing to keep in touch with what's going on in the industry. There will come a time when the marketing knowledge you hold today will be obsolete. This is especially true in the world of Internet marketing where everything seems to come about very quickly (and leave just as fast). You have to keep yourself updated with current trends, techniques and news in the field to keep your competitive edge.
Failing to invest on knowledge. This is a HUGE mistake that not only people in affiliate marketing make but people who do business on the Internet in general. They fail to actually put forth the money to learn ideas, tactics, and more. This is a huge downfall of many Affiliate marketers because they hope to find the "magic" key for free. It's important that you buy books, reports and even memberships to sites that will teach you those ideas you wouldn't otherwise learn. Free information can only take you so far.
Resting on your laurels once you've achieved a small amount of success. Success is not eternal. You have to sustain it. If you leave your business alone and don't do anything to improve upon it or add to it, you're just setting yourself up for failure.
Believing that affiliate marketing is a "get rich quick" scheme. It most definitely is not. You have to invest a certain amount of commitment, time, financial resources and a whole lot of effort if you really want to realize the many wonderful things that this field of business can give you.
Take these steps to heart and act on them, learn how to become a successful affiliate marketer instead of just expecting success to come to you.
