Now designershoes.co.uk may have gone but there are variations like designershoesuk.co.uk or designer-shoes-uk.co.uk. Having the domain name in the url really helps with your Google marketing efforts. You can still buy the business name domain, and I would do so, but make it forward to the keyword friendly domain, and ensure all promotion is for the keyword friendly domain.

Rather than getting the SEO expert to change the newly designed site, its best to get their recommendations at the build stage. But if not just remember that if you want to come up for several keywords then ensure you have pages to reflect this. SO if you want to come up for designer mens shoes and designer womens shoes, make sure you have a page for each. And dont make the most common mistake, dont call each page of your website Plum Shoes Ltd, call them what they are about. If a page is about pink designer shoes call the page that. If a page is about mens designer shoes call the page that.
