Website Design
Carefully knitting together Search Engine Optimisation and Web design
Creating websites that are easily found, designed to look great and a pleasure to navigate is truly a difficult skill. There are many website designers who do not understand their customer and want to create a copy of previous work and replicate across industries from Car sales to nut and bolt manufacturers but many web designers forget one thing...their target audience.
Some web designers choose to make their sites easy to navigate but forget that people are no longer interested in clicking into layer after layer of content to be directed to what they want.
The more common of mistakes from web designers of late is making their site visible to search engines and forgetting that people want a platform that is pleasing on the eye and easy to navigate.
Juno Web design have created these does and don'ts to highlight our expertise in creating website platforms that encompass the 3 golden rules, Visibility, Content and Usability.
Designing a website around Visibility (Search Engine Optimisation, SEO)
All kinds of techniques are surfacing recently as people start to understand the complex algorithms that are crucial to the success of the better search engines. Search engines have "spiders" that will crawl sites night and day to understand websites and all pages of the site whether on the home page or small pages 200 layers down on the tree map of web pages much like opening a folder on your desktop.
Search engines do not look at websites like humans will and therefore emotion counts for nothing, Google will not look at a website and think, "this is a nice website to use for what I am searching" but will instead apply numbers to variables that make a website, these include but are not limited to:
The URL; (website address) e.g. www flaschcars co.uk
The next layer URL and so on; www flashcars co.uk/forsale/cheap/redferrari
The written content; there is no point wondering off a subject and talking about trees on a car sale website.
The images; (images cannot be looked at and perceived as relevant, e.g. a picture of a tree on www flashcars .co.uk who's file name is cheap red Ferrari would be seen as Google the same as a real image).
All of these variables will be given weighted marks and Google will decide if your page is most relevant and therefore higher up on search engines compared to others.
Put simply Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is helping those spiders crawl over a site rather than through and into a complex myriad of layers.
Designing a website around Content
Once a Web designer has understood the client's requirements for content only then can the site be mapped out. A classical guitar company gave Juno Media a full specification and it became clear that the same cutting edge design used on the Nottingham restaurants (
http://www.godine.co.uk) Nottingham restaurants guide website, Go dine, would not be relevant. Guitar buyers and dealers are more concerned with the actual product and the content therein rather than an easily to navigate marketing platform. Of course SEO considerations need to occur but the audience looking for Classical Guitars would perhaps be older, more discerning and not looking for bold colours or draws, but instead let the products do the talking and the written content around the side be aimed at this audience.
Web designers therefore have to remove themselves away from the technical aspects of their day jobs and become a fan or customer of those products concerned.
Web design around usability
Usability of website and the design must coincide with the relevancy of content. Again a web designer must think through the eyes of visitors and understand if I were looking for a car and I was looking at the advert placed what options would I want, e.g. a buying option, similar makes, models, ages, colours options and how would this fit in with visibility and content.
Juno Media use the latest techniques to understand what our customers want and with so many considerations such as Web design, Web Content and Web usability Juno bring these together seamlessly.
What makes Juno's work better than anyone else's?
Being a young and vibrant team Juno Media embrace change and the latest technological advancements in SEO, web layout and web design. Juno create simple websites where if mapped out our sites are not pyramid in shape but instead are relatively flat. By using static pages and linking static pages together to create landing pages content tailored around that exact search term can be created. Juno's web design has moved completely away from database management where a page template is created and specific fields are generated so a cheap red Ferrari for sale is shown on a Juno designed website as www flashcars co.uk/redferrariforsale
AND NOT
http://www.flashcars.co.uk/ref7890c /vehicle/-/color_37=red/make_ref=46-ferrari
Juno web design truly are pioneers in search engine optimisation and Web design and would only be too pleased to discuss face to face rather than at the end of an email inbox.
