. Lets have a lokk over the generalized view first.
We all of are aware of the host guest thing. Host is the one who provides the services and guest is the one who enjoys the sercvices (obviously only if the host is good).
A web host is a host that provides service to a guest web site for making it accessible over world wide web.Usually a host is company but its not mandatory a person also can be a web host.
Broadly there are two phases of making a web site live (from the word live I mean to make a web site accessible over internet ) first is creating it and second is uploading or providing it a space on web server.
Fom technical point of view. A web host provides space for your web site and make it accessible for internet users.
To make a website live one needs three things broadly :
1.DOMAIN NAME:
A domain name is the address of your website on the web.its the text that internet user type in to find your website.
For example:www.mydomainname.com
2.WEB-SITE DEVELOPMENT:
Basically the web site development is done by three teams.
1.media team: This team provides the media i.e. images, videos,audios and flash files required for the web site
2.Development team: This team responsible writeing codes in langauges such as java,PHP,HTML,ASP.NET etc .
3.Testing team: This team is responsible for debugging the developed codes by developers .
Thats the formal structure for website development. But thats not mandatory at all. The requirement of the number of team and personnel are directly proprational to the robustness of the project. There are situation where a single persion can handle the work of three teams alone.
For example : A web site regarding personal information of a person or a family.
But there are situation where we require all the three teams and each team constituting several personnels such as on line courses provided by a university.
WEB HOSTING ACCOUNT: It is necessary that one finds a good web host . From Good I dont mean costly. Good means Reliable and Supportive. If your host does not have these two qualities at least, your Web venture can turn out to be a disater. Lacking these qualities can make your Web site offline most of the days even if you paying for every single second.
